BMI Calculator
Calculate your Body Mass Index to see if you're at a healthy weight.
How BMI is calculated, and its limits
Body Mass Index is calculated as weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². It's the same formula used by the World Health Organization's standard weight categories, which this calculator follows:
- Underweight: BMI below 18.5
- Normal weight: BMI 18.5 – 24.9
- Overweight: BMI 25 – 29.9
- Obese: BMI 30 and above
Important limitation
BMI is a quick screening tool, not a diagnosis. It doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat, so athletes and very muscular people often show a higher BMI despite low body fat. It also doesn't account for age, sex, or body frame. Use it as a general indicator, and consult a doctor for a full health assessment.
Frequently asked questions
